I have been doing Functional Fitness since November of 2008 when a local personal trainer had me try a workout at Gold’s Gym. Before discovering Functional Fitness, I grew up playing soccer and basketball. After high school I started lifting weights but got bored and strarted doing MMA. I decided to adopt Functional Fitness as my primary fitness program to help support my MMA career. Overtime and after the birth of my youngest son, I decided I enjoyed Functional Fitness far more than MMA.
I have held my Level I certificate since 2009, and have attended various other courses to improve my coaching since then. I have also attended the Coaches Prep Course, Functional Fitness Powerlifting, Kendrick Farris Athlete Camp, the Explosive Seminar and more.
I created a daunting workout known as the Iron Mile. Originally I performed this workout in late 2012, only to be met with criticism from my fellow coaches. But since then many others have went on to experience the Iron Mile for themselves; most notably 2013 Functional Fitness Games Champion Sam Briggs. The workout consist of a 1 mile Yoke Carry at 275lbs. Obviously no one can do this for a mile without resting, so to minimize breaks and encourage faster times; the penalty for every drop is three over-the-yoke burpees.
My goal as a coach is to use Functional Fitness to find ways to uniquely challenge people in a mental and physical aspect in order to improve their fitness levels. I am an athlete myself, so I am constantly looking for ways to awaken the inner athlete of each one of my clients.
